The Inspiration Behind Alicia Keys’ New Moncler Genius Collection

For her debut collection with Moncler Genius, Alicia Keys drew from her past to create garments that recall the most poignant moments from the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and entrepreneur's career. 

“Cool, casual, 100 percent New York - inspired by late 90s streetwear but with a twist” is how Keys describes her collection, which is heavily inspired by her hometown of New York City. It’s a city she paid tribute to on one of the biggest hits in her repertoire, Empire State of Mind, whose lyrics are applied with brush strokes to the back of the jersey pieces within this collection. The Big Apple is also referenced on a new collaborative logo, a crown is merged with Moncler’s iconic feltrino, representing the Statue of Liberty and the crowns we all wear in our daily lives. 

The new logo can be found on a number of garments in the collection, such as a full-length silver parka and an oversized hooded down jacket, as well as accessories, coffee-cup-shaped bags, nylon bucket hats, and baseball caps.

Bold colors are also one of the protagonists in the collection. This time we’re transported from New York to Jamaica, whose flag colors are present on an over-fitted tracksuit. There are also track styles in vibrant coral and Alicia’s signature purple. 

From long jackets and crop tops to hoodies and t-shirts, the Moncler Genius collection designed by Alicia Keys presents a modern gender-neutral wardrobe. A whole range of garments inspired by the imperfect beauty of 90s New York, created for new generations and new communities.
